"These new imageries ladened with movement in space have become my latest way of telling stories in memorare of a very traditional and cultural nuance tainted by a modern collective experience."
Kanbi Projects in collaboration with Tafeta gallery is pleased to present Jay.Walk, a solo exhibition of works by US-based Nigerian artist Austin Uzor.
Jay Walk is a reflection of Uzor's personal journey as a migrant of Nigerian descent in the US; juxtaposing his experience of growing up in a Catholic community in the Niger Delta region in Nigeria with his experience as a Black immigrant in the US. The exhibition is centred on this juxtaposition, the works specifically addresses memories of personal iconographic spirituality and passages enveloped in truth, lies, and rituals through time while maintaining the centrality of his practice: recurring themes of religion and migration through the intersectionality of contemporary acceptability.
